ZEGU in Harare clean up campaign

Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) which is the brainchild of Professor E.H. Guti on the 3rd of June 2017 engaged in a clean-up campaign of Harare First Street, from the corner Robert Mugabe and First Street to the corner of Samora Machel and First Street.  The activity started at 7:30 am and finished at 11:00 am. Fifty-five (55) members comprising of both students and staff members (50 students and 5 staff members) participated in the clean-up campaign.

The theme of the clean-up campaign “For a Safe and Clean Environment Oriented Mind –Enroll with ZEGU” was printed on the back of the t-shirts worn by participants on the day.

The theme emphasized the role that ZEGU as a young institution intends to play both locally and nationally. ZEGU is not only an intellectual hub to be reckoned with but is also a laboratory for developing a total person. In order to bring out the practicality of this vision, ZEGU chose to participate in this awareness campaign advocating for a safe and clean environment. The clean-up campaign was also done to establish recognition and to send a message to all aspiring leaders of today and tomorrow that ZEGU will continue to take responsibility and clean up in other centers and cities of Zimbabwe. To take part in future events, aspiring leaders must make that one important decision to enroll with ZEGU!!

As responsible citizens of Zimbabwe it is important to engage in such activities that help restore cleanliness in the city.

Three members of the ZEGU Student Executive Council were interviewed by journalists from Media agencies that covered the event. The journalists asked such questions like “What is the motive behind the clean-up and why Harare?” The respondents emphasized on the theme of the Clean-Up Campaign and the fact that Harare was targeted for its status as the Capital City and all eyes are on Harare. ZEGU will target other cities and centers for future clean ups.

Look out, your city might be the next in line!!

ZEGU introduces innovative and demand driven programs

As part of fulfilling its mandate, the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) has introduced the following innovative demand driven programs:

1. Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree in Accounting in partnership with Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) entered into a partnership that has seen ZEGU embedding ACCA curriculum into its Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree in Accounting resulting in students enrolled for this programme graduating with a degree and qualifying for maximum exemptions when registering for  ACCA professional qualification after graduating. Other benefits of the partnership include: ZEGU accessing ACCA curriculum and library, ACCA assisting with student placement on attachment, ACCA experts delivering lectures on some topics and ACCA upskilling ZEGU staff. This arrangement will bring convenience to accounting students who will not need to begin another long journey of studying to acquire professional qualifications after graduating from a university.
2. Diploma in School Leadership and Financial Management
The University also responded to the gaps identified by the audit carried out by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in school leadership by coming up with a Diploma in School Administration and Financial Management. This diploma programme addresses the gaps in school leadership with particular focus on administration, financial management and Information Communication Technology (ICT).  Prospective candidates for this programme include school heads, deputy heads, teachers in charge and other teachers who wish to develop themselves in preparation for their career advancement
3. Diploma in Microfinance Management
Owing to the growth of the Microfinance Sector in Zimbabwe and beyond, the university aims to address the lack of comprehensive programmes to build the capacity of those in the sector. After consulting some stakeholders in this particular sector, ZEGU is excited to introduce a Diploma in Microfinance to equip employees and prospective employees for the Microfinance Industry with relevant skills.
4. Other Programmes in 2017
Other new programmes to be introduced in February 2017 include Bachelor of Education Honours Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECD) and Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). These and the already existing programmes will be offered from both the main campus in Bindura and the Harare campus situated in Belvedere.
